Line 6 of the Beijing Subway (Chinese: 北京地铁6号线; pinyin: běijīng dìtiě liùhàoxiàn) is currently under construction and is scheduled to be opened in December 28, 2012.[1] The line will run parallel to and north of Line 1 and the Batong Line, from Shijingshan to Tongzhou District. It may be the first of Beijing's subway lines to feature express and local stations.[2] Line 6 has a total planned length of 50.67 km with 32 stations, and will be built in three phases.

Construction is planned in in two phases.
In Phase I, Line 6 will run about 30 km from Wulu in Haidian District to Caoying in Tongzhou District following Linglong Road, Sanlihe Road, Chaoyang North Rd., the west bank of the Grand Canal, and Grand Canal East Road. Of the 20 planned stations, 12 will offer transfer connections to other lines. Construction began in December 2007 and is scheduled to be completed in 2012. Total investment for Phase I is estimated at ¥19.7 billion.[3]

Line 6 in Phase I was originally slated to have elevated tracks for 7 km, east of the 5th Ring Road, from Dingfuzhuang and Changying. After residents along the route raised concerns about train noise, planners reconsidered and ultimately decided to keep all of Phase I under ground.[4][5][6]
In Phase II, Line 6 will be extended further east by about 12 km through 7 stations from Caofang to Dongxiaoying in the Tongzhou New City. Planned stations, from west to east:

Like Phase I, the entire section of Phase II is kept underground.
In 2011, the Subway authorities have decided to split[7] five stations from the Mentougou Line and incorporate them as part of the western section of Line 6 to eradicate public fears about electromagnetic pollution[8] and also to improve links with the city. The opening date of the line has not been confirmed. The planned stations, from west to east, are:
